How do I track bills without missing a payment?

The problem with mental tracking

You think you remember all your bills. Then you get hit with a late fee on something you forgot about. Everyone's been there.

The truth is, the average person juggles 10-15 recurring bills. Rent, electric, water, internet, phone, car insurance, streaming services, gym membership, loan payments... It adds up fast. And each one has a different due date, a different amount, and a different payment method.

Your brain wasn't designed to be a bill calendar. That's why you keep getting surprised by charges you "should have remembered."

Set up your bill calendar

Start by listing every recurring charge you have. All of them. Here's what most people forget:

Rent or mortgage · Electric · Water · Gas · Internet · Phone · Car insurance · Health insurance · Streaming subscriptions · Gym membership · Loan payments · Credit card minimums · Annual subscriptions (these sneak up on you)

For each one, write down three things: the name, the amount, and the due date. That's your bill calendar. Now you have a complete picture instead of scattered reminders in your head.

💡 Auto-detect with payee rules

In Ambit Starter, when you import bank data, set up payee rules with due days. The dashboard shows which bills are paid, which are coming up, and which are overdue.

Here's how it works: you create a payee rule once (for example, "ELECTRIC CO" maps to your electric bill, due on the 15th). From then on, every time you import transactions, Ambit automatically matches that payment and marks the bill as paid for the month.

No manual check-offs. No forgetting. The system does the work for you.

The dashboard does the worrying for you

The bills section uses a simple traffic light system so you know exactly where you stand at a glance:

✓ Paid ● Due soon ● Overdue

Green means paid — you're good. Amber means due in the next few days — time to make sure the money's there. Red means overdue — act now.

No more logging into five different websites to check if something went through. No more mental gymnastics. Open the dashboard, look at the colors, and you're done.

Mr. Ambit thumbs up

Never miss a bill again. Ambit Starter tracks them all for $9.99 — one time, not monthly.
